ATEX Products – Components for Hazardous Areas and Explosive Atmospheres

Working in environments where explosive atmospheres are a reality demands equipment that is engineered to match. Gram Clean Air offers a comprehensive range of ATEX-approved components specifically designed for use in ATEX zones where combustible dust, flammable gases, or volatile materials are present. Our product range covers everything from extraction arms and fans to filter units, cyclones, high-vacuum units, and system monitoring — all certified and built to prevent sparking, static electricity, and the risk of dust explosions.

What is ATEX and why does it matter?

ATEX refers to two European directives that govern equipment and working conditions in potentially explosive atmospheres — the name comes from the French ATmosphères EXplosibles. The directives apply wherever flammable gases, vapours, mists, or combustible dusts can mix with air in sufficient quantities to create an explosion risk. For any industrial facility operating under these conditions, ATEX certification is not optional — it is a legal requirement.

Gram Clean Air products are manufactured in accordance with EN 14986 standards and CE-marked under the EU Machine Directive, ensuring full regulatory compliance for your facility.

Understanding ATEX Zones

ATEX zones are used to classify hazardous areas based on the likelihood and duration of an explosive atmosphere being present. Correct zone classification is the starting point for selecting the right ATEX-approved equipment.

Gas and vapour zones:

  • Zone 1 — Explosive gas atmosphere likely to occur during normal operation
  • Zone 2 — Explosive gas atmosphere unlikely in normal operation, but may occur for short periods

Dust zones:

  • Zone 21 — Combustible dust cloud likely to be present during normal operation
  • Zone 22 — Combustible dust cloud unlikely in normal operation, but may occur for short periods
  • Zone 20 — Combustible dust cloud present continuously or for long periods. Note: Gram Clean Air does not supply products rated for Zone 20

Our ATEX product range covers Zones 1, 2, 20, 21, and 22 — giving you a complete solution regardless of your specific hazard classification.

Our ATEX Product Range

ATEX Extraction Arms
Flexible extraction arms from 1 to 9 metres in ATEX execution, designed for welding smoke, dust, aerosols, and fumes in Zone 21/1 (2D/2G). Anti-static construction prevents static build-up at the point of capture.

ATEX Fans
Explosion-proof centrifugal fans for DUST Zone 22 and GAS Zones 1–2, with air volumes up to 32,500 m³/h and vacuum capabilities up to 9,000 Pa. All models manufactured to EN 14986 with spark protection and temperature monitoring.

ATEX Filter Units
Compressed-air cleaned filter systems for explosive dusts, certified for ATEX Zones 21/22 and 21/21. Air volumes from 500 m³/h up to 45,000 m³/h. Equipped with explosion relief and automatic cleaning for continuous safe operation.

ATEX High-Vacuum Units
Compact high-vacuum units for Zone 21/22 — suitable for central vacuum cleaning and connection to hand tools. Cartridge filter with integrated compressed-air cleaning and built-in explosion membrane.

ATEX Pre-Separators
Cyclone-based pre-separators for coarse dust separation before filtration, available for Zones 20, 21, and 22. Reduces filter load and extends filter lifespan in heavy-dust environments.

ATEX Cabinets for Disposable Filters
Potential-equalised filter cabinets for use in ATEX zones, accommodating compact, absolute, and active filter configurations with anti-static filter media.

ATEX System Monitoring
Control and monitoring components for ATEX installations — including filter controllers, differential pressure switches, leak detectors, thermistor relays, and alarm beacons certified for Zone 1/21.

Dust Explosions – Understanding the Risk

A dust explosion occurs when combustible particles — such as aluminium dust, wood dust, or powder — are dispersed in air at the right concentration and exposed to an ignition source. The consequences can be catastrophic. ATEX-certified equipment eliminates ignition sources through anti-static materials, conductive components, explosion relief membranes, and flame-proof construction. Gram Clean Air products are specifically engineered to divert explosion pressure in the event of an incident, protecting both your people and your facility.

Who Are Our ATEX Products For?

Our ATEX components are used across a wide range of industries where explosive dust or gas is a regular part of the process — including woodworking, metalworking, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and defence.
